Cory Hall Auditorium

University of California, Berkeley

Cory Hall is a 140-person lecture hall that was underutilized by the University due to overheating. The goal of the project was to fix the mechanical system, upgrade the teaching wall to meet the University’s classroom standards, and refresh the finishes. Coordination with University stakeholders and regulatory agencies were carefully scheduled to allow the project to go into construction during the short unoccupied summer months.

Quick, skillful design and documentation were the keys to this project’s success. Together with the mechanical engineer and building manager, we were able to develop a new cooling solution to fix the room’s overheating issues and provide fresh outside air. In order to meet the summer construction schedule, we carefully coordinated three different regulatory agencies, DSA Access, Local Fire Marshall, and Campus Permitting.
