SFO Terminal 2 Renovation
San Francisco, CA

H+A is associate architect to Gensler as part of a Design Build team with Turner Construction to renovate San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 2 and Boarding Area D.  Terminal 2, SFO’s former international terminal, dates to the 1950s and is the smallest of SFO’s four wings.  The 587,800-square-foot project will transform the structure from a 10-gate wide-body facility into a 13 narrow-body and single wide-body gate configuration for domestic airlines. Virgin America is the only confirmed tenant to date.  The project is currently under way and is expected to be completed by Fall 2010.

Renovation includes seismic upgrades, office space, lobby, ticketing areas, security, food and beverage facilities, retail space, baggage areas, terminal lounges, two children’s play areas, and gates. In addition, a new control tower will replace the current, seismically unsound structure. The terminal will feature light, airy spaces and will include a variety of seating arrangements - including armchairs, small sofas and coffee tables. This project will be registered as a LEED Silver building.
