LYRIC Youth Center
San Francisco, CA
We began working with LYRIC in 1993, when LYRIC was considering purchasing a residential duplex to house their youth program. Hamilton + Aitken helped assess the building and assisted LYRIC with a Conditional Use Permit. To transform the row house into a teen center, the building underwent a complete seismic upgrade; to ensure that the first two floors of the three-story structure were accessible to all, we installed a new elevator.
H+A led extensive design workshops involving staff and youth to determine the final space configuration that would facilitate the complex socialization, counseling and services program. Final designs provided for large group meeting rooms, lounges, counseling offices and recreational areas -all within the existing shell.
Over the years, LYRIC has grown. Our most recent design work with LYRIC is an expansion master plan, which includes a three-story addition, conversion of the garage into offices, and courtyard landscaping featuring a small amphitheater. This plan will aid LYRIC in its fundraising efforts to expand its programs and facilities.
