Everett Middle School Modernization
San Francisco Unified School District
Everett Middle School was constructed in 1924 and is a beautiful example of Spanish Revival architecture, but over the years, the building and grounds had fallen into disrepair. Our goal for the renovation of this Grade 6-8, 600-student middle school was to provide needed safety and educational improvements, while preserving the unique character and historic integrity of the school.
Our work has encompassed nearly every part of the 4.2 acre campus, including new and renovated Science Labs; new computer networking system and upgraded electrical power; extensive exterior building restoration and painting; roof repairs; accessibility ramp; a colorful play yard with new physical education equipment; and a renovation of the stage and auditorium.
Modernization of an occupied campus of this size and complexity necessitated multiple phases of construction. Phase V improved the multi-story campus' accessibility by providing three elevators, lifts, all new doors, handrails, auditorium seating and accessible cabinetry. Fire and Life Safety improvements included building-wide automatic fire alarms, sprinkler system and stair enclosures. A major design feature of this renovation is a multi-level terraced courtyard that provides outdoor eating and gathering spaces for the students.
