Downtown Campus Library
City College of San Francisco

Our goal for the Downtown Campus Library was to enhance its visibility, to make it accessible to all students, and to improve its functionality. Floor area adjacent to the elevator lobby was incorporated into the Library to provide a new entry- a fully glazed entry wall that opens up the space and invites the library visitor within. Furnishings in the site line of the entry door are kept low to afford an expansive, light-filled view through the entire space to the exterior windows. A curved circulation desk greets the user. The openness of the facility allows one or two staff at the reception desk to observe the activity of all areas including reading areas, book stacks, carrels, and labs; and be available to provide resource guidance, computer assistance and visitor orientation without leaving the vicinity.

Our work on the Downtown Campus also included 2 new 3-story tall exterior signs, elevator and elevator lobby renovations, HVAC system improvements, and renovations to the restrooms.

H+A prepared a Downtown Campus Master Plan for CCSF. This document includes facility condition assessments for the 8 floors plus basement, cost estimates, and conceptual design solutions to meet current and projected College needs
